Joe Root: News
One amongst the famed quartet of modern-day batting maestros, Joe Root is a right-handed English batsman and part-time right-arm off-spinner. A batsman with scrumptious shots in his arsenal and a love for scoring runs, Root's rise to stardom and England's Test captaincy were meteoric. He made his first-class debut for Yorkshire in 2010. His consistency as a batsman earned him his international debut in a Test match against India in 2012. In what was a slow and difficult pitch in Nagpur, Root showed his mettle by crafting what was the sixth-longest innings in Tests by an English debutant. His maiden Test hundred came against New Zealand in Headingley in 2013. In 2017, he was appointed the captain of the Test team. Root was part of the ICC Test Team of the Year in 2014, 2015, and 2016. His shot-making skills and inherent hunger for runs made him a perfect fit for the English ODI team as well. Making his ODI debut in 2013 against India, Root soon became the glue that held an aggressive English batting order. In the 2019 World Cup, he was the team's top scorer.
